About Dr. Otto & Dr. Mueller

January 24, 2019

Midwest Dental is introducing its doctors, Dr. Jordan Otto and Dr. Matthew Mueller, to the Waverly community.

Both doctors were born and raised in Iowa. Dr. Otto grew up in a small town in western Iowa right outside of Carroll. Dr. Mueller grew up in Grimes, a town of about 13,000 people near Des Moines. Both dentists find comfort in being where their roots are. “I always knew I wanted to keep my life in Iowa and now after being in Waverly, I know I made the right choice as it reminds me so much of home,” Dr. Otto said.

Dr. Otto found dentistry early on in life. His uncle and his dad’s best friend were both dentists which helped plant the seed. “In 8th grade we had to do a research project on a career path that we were interested in. I did mine on dentistry and orthodontics,” he said. “I interviewed dentists for the project and it really piqued my interest. I guess you could say from there I was destined to be a dentist.”

Dr. Otto pursued that dream by attending Creighton University in Omaha, NE where he received his undergraduate degree in chemistry with a minor in biology. He then went on to Creighton University School of Dentistry to earn his dental degree.

Dr. Mueller’s interest in dentistry didn’t begin as early, but he is very glad it’s the path he took. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Central College in Pella. He knew he wanted to do something related to the medical field but was unsure what that was.

“I decided to shadow a family friend who was a dentist. I had always admired him and he had suggested I look into dentistry many times throughout my childhood,” he said. From that experience, Dr. Mueller decided he would apply to dental school. He received his dental degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics.

Although both doctors have taken different paths to get to where they are, they have each really found a passion in dentistry.

“I have found so many dentists to be just genuinely happy with what they do which makes it such a wonderful career to be in,” said Dr. Otto.

“I really have come to love and appreciate that every day is different and exciting in what we do,” Dr. Mueller shared.

Dr. Otto and Dr. Mueller both live in Waverly, and by chance they even chose to live in the same building. You can usually find Dr. Mueller working out to stay active or rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals, and Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoys golfing in the summer and is looking forward to working on his game a bit once the weather warms up.

Dr. Otto can usually be seen walking his two Miniature Schnauzers, Maggie and Gus, around town. He also loves music and is looking forward to getting more involved in it here in Waverly. He was a part of the Professional Choir for the Omaha Symphony during college and dental school, and music and theater have always been a big part of his life.

Dr. Otto and Dr. Mueller are both happy to be serving the Waverly community. “I feel really lucky to work with the team we have here in Waverly. From day one, everyone – including our patients – has been so welcoming and friendly,” said Dr. Otto.

“I am looking forward to getting to know more of the community as well as become a part of it,” said Dr. Mueller.
