Routine visits keep your smile healthy and may prevent costly issues down the road.
Preventative Dentistry
Preventative dentistry is a crucial aspect of maintaining overall health, but it’s about more than just a beautiful smile. Preventative dental services aim to keep your teeth and gums healthy, which can also promote overall good health and wellness.
It’s also a money-saver, as regular dental maintenance can save you from severe and costly dental issues down the line.
Below, we’ll guide you through the importance of preventative dentistry. We’ll also provide information on why Midwest Dental is your best option for preventative dentistry.
Preventative dentistry is a branch of dental care focused on preventing oral diseases and tooth decay. The main goal of preventative dentistry is to maintain good oral health, which can help you avoid the discomfort and cost of treating dental issues like tooth decay and gum disease.
Preventative dentistry also extends beyond the dentist office. It also involves taking care of your teeth at home through twice-daily brushing and daily flossing.
Preventative dentistry is also important to your overall health, as poor oral health can lead to systemic health issues like heart disease and diabetes. So, by practicing preventative dentistry, you can ensure a healthy mouth and a healthy body. It’s a proactive approach to your health that pays off in the long run.
The Importance of Preventative Dental Services
Preventative dental services are crucial for maintaining oral health. They help detect dental issues early — when they are easier and less expensive to treat. This is why regular dental checkups are a key part of preventative dentistry.
Preventative services also include professional teeth cleanings, which remove plaque and tartar regular brushing and flossing can’t reach. This helps prevent cavities but also plays a critical role in preventing gum disease, a leading cause of tooth loss in adults.
Moreover, some studies suggest a link between oral health and systemic health. Regular preventative dental care can help manage conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
Some key preventative dental services Midwest Dental offers include:
Regular dental check-ups
Professional teeth cleanings
Fluoride treatments
Dental sealants
Oral cancer screenings
Gum disease prevention
Dental education and counseling
Choosing the Right Dentist for Preventative Care
Choosing the right dentist for preventative care is crucial. You want a professional who is skilled, experienced, and dedicated to patient education.
You have many dentists to choose from, so it’s important to do your research.
First, consider the dentist’s approach to patient care. Do they take the time to explain procedures and answer questions? Do they emphasize the importance of regular checkups and cleanings?
You also want to consider the dentist’s office environment. Is it clean and welcoming? Is the staff friendly and professional? These factors can greatly influence your overall experience.
You can get all this information in a few ways. First, you can look at online reviews and see what other patients have to say. You can also speak with friends and family about their preferred dentist. And finally, you can schedule a basic checkup just to get a feel for the dentist, the staff, and the office.
Fortunately, you’ve already found the best dentist for preventative dentistry, Midwest Dental.
How Often Should You Visit the Dentist?
The frequency of dental visits can vary depending on your oral health status. However, most dental professionals recommend visiting the dentist every six months.
These regular checkups allow your dentist to monitor your oral health. They can spot early signs of dental issues, such as cavities or gum disease, and provide timely treatment.
Remember, preventative dentistry is about being proactive. Regular dental visits are a key part of maintaining good oral health and preventing more serious problems down the line.
Preventative Dentistry for Children and Teens
Preventative dentistry is crucial for children and teens. It helps establish good oral hygiene habits from a young age. Plus, regular dental visits can help detect issues like early tooth decay to ensure their incoming teeth are healthy. Dentists can also use this time to help them learn proper brushing and flossing techniques.
Remember, a healthy smile contributes to overall well-being. Starting preventative dentistry early can set the stage for a lifetime of good oral health.
Advances in Preventative Dentistry Technologies
Preventative dentistry is constantly evolving, as new technologies and practices continue making dental care more effective and comfortable.
Digital X-rays, for instance, provide detailed images of teeth and gums, helping dentists detect problems early.
Laser dentistry is another advancement dentists use for various procedures, including cavity and gum disease treatment.
And this is only the beginning, as new technologies will continue to enhance the quality of preventative dental care .
Financing and Insurance for Preventative Dentistry
Many people worry about paying for dental care. Fortunately, most insurance plans cover preventative dental services, including regular checkups, cleanings, and X-rays.
For those without insurance, many dentists offer financing options, including Midwest Dental.
In addition to financing options, Midwest Dental also offers the Essential Smile Plan, which covers many procedures and offers steep discounts of 20-50% on others. These can make preventative care more affordable.
Remember, investing in preventative dentistry now can save you money in the long run. It helps avoid costly treatments for serious dental issues that could arise from neglect.
The Role of Home Care in Dental Maintenance
Preventative dentistry extends beyond the dentist’s office, as it’s a daily commitment that starts at home. Brushing and flossing regularly are the cornerstones of good oral health.
The Midwest Dental dentists recommend brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush and flossing once daily. This helps remove plaque and prevent tooth decay.
Remember, home care complements professional dental services. It doesn’t replace them. Regular dental visits are still crucial for thorough cleaning and early detection of potential issues.

Dr. Patel and Angie did an amazing job on my chipped tooth! I was able to get an appointment fast-within a day of chipping my tooth. Angie explained everything that needed to happen in detail and Dr. Patel performed the procedure with precision. I can’t even tell where the chip was! The color match blends beautifully. What I also loved what how Dr. Patel explained the likely cause of why the chip happened and how to take preventative measures going forward. The care was simply impeccable. They had me back into my daily life in no time at all!!
I'm sitting here wondering how I have never written a review on this facility. Where do I even start? I must say, when I found this facility, I was a bit nervous. I do have dental anxiety as well. I LOVE this facility. Dr. Berryman is the best dentist I have ever encountered. He is INDEED and the EPITOME of a master at his craft. I've recommended people to this facility.
We all know that Gloria runs the show! She is also very knowledgeable about what needs to happen. If I had a question, especially about what the doctor had told me, I would ask her, and she would provide clarification. If she was unsure which she made time to get up or send someone to Dr. Berryman. She never stirred me in the wrong direction and neither has Dr. Berryman.
This organization at this specific location (I havent been to the others).... means business. They don't tell you what you want to hear, they professionally tell you what you need to hear as it pertains to your dental health and provides you great prevention education.
I chose Dr. Berryman not only his background, but because of where he got his some of his education as well. It was where I resided at one point in time. He is great at what he does, and he knows it. What I am most grateful for is his humbleness.
I don't get to go as often as I should go due to insurance changes and that will change.
God bless this facility and the abundance thereof! Thank you all so much!

I am not a patient because I live in Texas but my mother has been and continues to be a patient of Midwest in Reedsburg. She has suffered with fears of dental offices, yet went through extensive dental treatment these past 3-4 months. I can honestly say the dentist and staff took care of her like family! I have worked in dentistry for 25 years myself and was extremely worried that my mother would be dismissed due to her age. But the COMPASSION, CARE and PATIENCE offered to my mother was & is priceless. The work completed turned out to be high quality and absolutely beautiful!!! I am forever a grateful daughter and highly recommend this office to everyone for their dental care and preventative services. You will be in the right hands.
I love coming here. I always have a great experience. I had to switch doctors due to a change in my schedule. They made sure I was aware that changing my days would affect who my dentist would be and made sure I was comfortable with that change. They take a preventative approach and make sure you are aware of the state of your dental health and help you make a plan to avoid issues coming up later. I've never encountered someone whom I didn't have a good interaction with at this office. Would highly recommend!
Great dentists, friendly atmosphere. Examination was complete followed with an understandable explanation of the examine and the findings. One of few dentists taking the time to suggest preventative measures to maintain healthy gums. It saves a lot of time at a periodontist and I have been there.
The employees I met were all well trained and performed their duties in an efficient manner, giving me confidence that I would be receiving good treatment and care.
I cannot praise the dentists and staff of the Midwest Dental Clinic enough.
Very nice staff and very thorough with my teeth cleaning. Showed me steps on how to prevent cavities and offered products to buy. I recommended my family to come here and I would recommend anyone else too. Thank you for a great experience.
