Dental Fillings
Dental health is a crucial aspect of overall well-being, yet many people overlook the importance of regular dental care.
One common dental procedure is a dental filling. It restores the function and appearance of teeth affected by decay or damage.
Dental fillings in Weston, WI at Midwest Dental are a routine part of dental care. But what exactly is a dental filling? How much does a dental filling cost in Weston, WI?
We’ll answer these questions and more while also exploring the types of dental fillings near you, the process of getting a filling, and more.
What Is a Dental Filling?
A dental filling is a common dental procedure used to repair teeth damaged by decay. The process involves removing the decayed tooth material, cleaning the affected area, and then filling the cleaned-out cavity with a filling material.
This filling material helps prevent further decay by closing off spaces where bacteria can enter. It also restores the tooth’s shape and function, allowing you to chew and speak normally.
Dentists offer several types of materials for dental fillings in Weston, WI, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. These include amalgam, composite, gold, and ceramic fillings. The choice of material often depends on factors such as the extent of repair, allergies, and cost.
Signs You May Need a Dental Filling
Recognizing the signs that you may need a dental filling is crucial for timely treatment. Ignoring these signs can lead to more serious dental issues, including severe tooth decay, severe toothache, and tooth loss.
Common signs you might need a dental filling include:
Persistent toothache or spontaneous tooth pain
Sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods and drinks
Visible holes or pits in your teeth
Pain when biting down or chewing
Discoloration or white spots on your teeth
If you experience any of these symptoms, schedule a dental appointment at the Midwest Dental office near you as soon as possible. Our dentist can accurately diagnose the issue and determine whether a filling is the best course of treatment.
Remember, early detection and treatment of tooth decay can save your teeth and prevent more complex and costly dental procedures in the future.
Types of Dental Fillings in Weston, WI
You’ll find a variety of dental filling materials available in Weston, WI, and each type has its set of advantages and disadvantages. Your dentist will help you choose the best option based on your specific needs.
Amalgam Dental Fillings
Amalgam fillings, also known as silver fillings, are a common choice for dental fillings in Weston, WI. They are durable and relatively inexpensive, but their silver color can be noticeable when you laugh or smile.
Composite Dental Fillings
Composite fillings, made from a mixture of plastic and fine glass particles, are another popular option. Your dentist can match them to the color of your teeth, making them a more visually pleasing choice. However, they may not last as long as other types of fillings.
Gold Fillings
Gold fillings are generally the most durable options, lasting over 15 years, but they’re also the most expensive.
Ceramic Fillings
Ceramic fillings, made of porcelain, are tooth-colored and resistant to staining. The downside is they can be as expensive as gold fillings.
Which Dental Filling Is Right for You?
Choosing the right type of dental filling depends on various factors, including the extent of repair, the location of the tooth, your insurance coverage, and personal preference. It’s important to discuss these factors with your dentist to make an informed decision.
The Process of Getting a Dental Filling in Weston, WI
Getting a dental filling near you is straightforward and begins with examining your teeth. Your dentist will use a small mirror to check the surfaces of each tooth. They may also take dental X-rays to detect cavities between teeth.
If your dentist detects decay, they will numb the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic. They then remove the decayed portion of the tooth using a drill, air abrasion instrument, or laser. The choice of instrument depends on the extent of decay, the location of the tooth, and the dentist’s comfort level with the equipment.
After removing the decay, the dentist will prepare the space for the filling. Different types of fillings require different preparation techniques. Once the filling is in place, your dentist will finish and polish it. The entire process usually takes just one visit.
Understanding Dental Filling Costs in Weston, WI
The cost of dental fillings near you can vary based on several factors, including the type of filling material used and the extent of the tooth decay. Your dentist will provide a detailed cost estimate after examining your teeth.
Dental insurance can also significantly reduce your out-of-pocket expenses, as it generally covers at least part of a dental filling in Weston, WI. It’s always a good idea to discuss the cost with your dentist before the procedure.
At Midwest Dental in Weston, WI, we’re always happy to review your insurance coverage and help you better understand your cost for getting a filling.

This dentist is fast, polite, good at her job, and Delta works great with them. I asked if she learned fast and good dentistry under gunfire, and she was literally an army dentist. They also need good hygienists, if working here is half as good as the experience is for a guy who is afraid of dentists. You will like it.
All time favorite dentist.

Great dentists, friendly atmosphere. Examination was complete followed with an understandable explanation of the examine and the findings. One of few dentists taking the time to suggest preventative measures to maintain healthy gums. It saves a lot of time at a periodontist and I have been there.
The employees I met were all well trained and performed their duties in an efficient manner, giving me confidence that I would be receiving good treatment and care.
I cannot praise the dentists and staff of the Midwest Dental Clinic enough.
