About Dr. Joseph Karpiak

Midwest Dental is welcoming Dr. Joseph Karpiak to their office and introducing him to the Belvidere community. Dr. Karpiak joined the team at the Midwest Dental office located at 760 Beloit Road in July 2017.
An Illinois native from a small town south of Chicago, Dr. Karpiak knew he wanted to stay in his home state. Being an only child, he also wanted to be close to his family. When it came time to look for that dental home, Midwest Dental provided a perfect opportunity in the perfect place.
“In some ways Belvidere is a lot like my hometown, and I’m really enjoying getting to know it,” Dr. Karpiak said. “It’s everything I wanted it to be.”
Being a dentist is as great as he imagined it would be, too. While other kids dreamed of growing up to be superheroes or famous actors, Dr. Karpiak knew from a young age that he wanted to be a dentist. “I’ve known since I was five years old,” he said. “I was always fascinated with teeth. I would sit with my dad when he visited the dentist to watch what they were doing.”
Though he didn’t have any doctors or dentists in his family, job shadowing affirmed his passion for dentistry. To that end, Dr. Karpiak first completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry at Saint Joseph’s College in Indiana. It was there he also met his now husband, who he married this fall.
During his time at St. Joseph’s College, Dr. Karpiak honed his skills in the sciences and worked hard to reach his goal of getting into dental school. Being accepted to most dental schools is very competitive, but Dr. Karpiak faced the challenge head on. He returned to Illinois and earned his dental degree from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. He loves the variety that dentistry provides.
Dr. Karpiak enjoys meeting patients and getting to know them. Since he is new to town, he often asks if his patients have recommendations for things he can check out in Belvidere. He believes that this partnership built on mutual trust is key. “My number one priority is the oral health of each of my patients,” he said. “I believe in providing the best possible care for each patient, and I cater to each patient’s individual needs.”
