Midwest Dental is welcoming Dr. Miranda Foster to their office and introducing her to the Sterling community. Dr. Foster joined the team at the Midwest Dental office located on Locust Street in July 2017.
Dr. Foster is very familiar with the Sterling area because she grew up only 30 minutes away in Rochelle. Her family still resides there, which allows her to see them often. “I grew up on a farm with my parents and four brothers. Being nearby is nice because I still get the chance to see them all whenever I want,” she said.
Dr. Foster has always been very active and enjoyed playing sports when she was younger. “Growing up with four brothers, I always wanted to be involved in whatever they were which is where I found my athletic side,” she said.
This is where her love for running came into play. Dr. Foster ran cross-country and track during high school but quickly decided that her love for running wasn’t meant to be competitive. She found that instead she enjoyed running on her own as opposed to racing with a team. Running and staying healthy are things that she has continued to stick with into her adult life.
Dr. Foster and her 8 year old son Elijah enjoy staying active and taking part in each other’s hobbies together. “We like to bike together, watch short films and comedies, and cook together,” she said. “Elijah is very proud of his chicken curry chicken.”
Though having four brothers influenced her active side, her passion for dentistry was somewhat unique. Dr. Foster didn’t grow up with any family members as medical professionals. Her interest grew from her own experiences. “I always had great teeth and it was something that fascinated me because I was never afraid to go to the dentist, I actually enjoyed it,” she stated. “I wanted to break the norm and help other people feel what I felt about the going to the dentist.”
After deciding on dentistry for her career path, Dr. Foster attended Northern Illinois University in Dekalb and received her Bachelor of Science degree. She ventured a bit farther from home and earned her dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry. “I had grown up on a farm with no neighbors in sight,” she said. “I had always wanted to live in New York City and it seemed like the perfect time to do it.”
Although she was happy she had the chance to live in New York, she always knew she was going to move back home. After finding an opportunity with Midwest Dental in Sterling, she knew it was time. “I love the feel of being closer to home and of being part of a small town again. It’s just where I belong,” she said.
Dr. Foster has been providing care at Midwest Dental in Sterling for a few months now and really enjoys getting the chance to meet people in the community. “I really love learning more about my patients. I want to know their story and what has kept them or brought them to this area,” she said. “I like to share my story of coming back home.”
Midwest Dental Sterling is open Monday through Thursday with evening appointments available after 5:00 p.m. Dr. Foster and the Midwest Dental team are now accepting new patients of all ages. They can be reached at (815) 625-0044 or online at midwest-dental.com/sterling.
