About Dr. Salma Faraz

Midwest Dental is introducing Dr. Salma Faraz to the Palos Heights community. Dr. Faraz joined the Midwest Dental office located at 12040 S. Harlem Avenue in July of this year.

Dr. Faraz grew up in Northern Virginia near Washington D.C.  She had always known that she wanted to find a career in the healthcare field but was unsure what that meant for her. She started out by attending George Mason University where she received her bachelor’s degree in biology. From there she shadowed a dentist and a doctor to see which occupation may be a better fit for her.

“Seeing how the dentist could quickly change someone’s life by improving their smile was what really stood out to me,” Dr. Faraz said. “The quick process of being able to provide someone with confidence was fascinating.” That was when she decided that she would work towards becoming a dentist. She moved to Illinois where she attended Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine to earn her dental degree.

“Dentistry is really a mixture of art and science,” Dr. Faraz shared. Growing up, she had a passion for art, which she indulged through sculpting and painting. “I have always enjoyed creating things and one thing I love about dentistry is that I get to help create people’s smiles by improving them,” she said.

Dr. Faraz decided to remain in the Chicagoland area upon graduating from Midwestern University. She met her husband Abasin, who is also a dentist, during their time at dental school. His family is from the west suburbs of Chicago. “We both really love the city. There are so many things to do and places to explore. We love trying new restaurants and finding events to attend,” she said.

In addition to exploring Chicago, Dr. Faraz also enjoys spending her free time staying active with things such as yoga and hiking. They are both looking forward to exploring the forest preserves near Palos Heights during the warmer months. She and her husband also like to travel when they can. They have been to Europe and Southeast Asia and are looking forward to making Japan their next destination.

Since joining Midwest Dental in Palos Heights, Dr. Faraz has been really excited to meet all of her patients in addition to becoming a part of the team. “Everyone in our office is such an important part of the culture we create and it’s great to have a team that feels like a family,” she said. “We really try to craft a fun and positive experience for each person who walks into our office.”
